Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP Cosmetic is a revolutionary cosmetic treatment that rejuvenates the skin, resulting in a youthful appearance.

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a treatment derived from a small sample of your own blood, processed to concentrate platelets and growth factors. These natural components stimulate healing, collagen production, and tissue regeneration, making PRP effective for skin rejuvenation, hair restoration, and other cosmetic or therapeutic purposes. The procedure is minimally invasive and promotes natural results by enhancing the body’s inherent healing abilities.

A Doctor or nurse will take your blood (like a normal blood test). The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to isolate the PRP which contains a large concentration of growth factors and platelets integral to healing and regeneration. The area to be treated is washed and local anaesthetic cream is applied. The PRP is then injected directly into the area to be treated.

The whole process takes approximately 60 minutes.

How does PRP treatment for skin work?

PRP contains a high proportion of cytokines, white blood cells and growth factors vital for the regeneration of tissue. Growth factors in the PRP stimulate cells called dermal fibroblasts, increasing their replication and production of collagen and elastin. These are responsible for tissue strength and elasticity, which are often lost in aging.

PRP also stimulates adipocytes which are responsible for facial fullness and reduction of naso-labial folds and smile lines. The result is tissue growth, a reduction in wrinkles and a more youthful complexion!

If you wish to boost your collagen production, you can combine your PRP treatment with a thread lift at our clinic for even better results.

Some uses of Cosmetic PRP include:

  • Overall anti-aging

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Uneven or dull skin tone

  • Dehydrated and dry skin

  • Fine, thin crepe skin around the eyes, neck and back of hands

  • Scar improvement

  • Improving skin elasticity

  • Hair growth

How does PRP differ from mainstream treatments?

When compared to current mainstream cosmetic treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections and fillers, PRP differs in several ways:

  • It is natural and harmless. PRP is made from a sample of your own blood, without any additives, so there is no risk of an allergic reaction.

  • PRP does not work by reducing the movement of the muscles of facial expression, so will not result in paralysis.

  • Its effects last longer. While the effects may take several weeks to develop, they last longer than anti-wrinkle injections or fillers.

  • PRP can be used with other cosmetic treatments such as micro-needling and thread lifts

How should I prepare for my PRP treatment?

  • Drink plenty of water and eat healthily prior to the treatment.

  • Vitamin E and fish-oil tablets should be avoided 2-3 days prior to your treatment as they can increase bruising*.

  • Avoid taking blood thinning medications, as they can also increase bruising.

Please let us know if you are taking any of the above.

Please note that some people experience mild bruising in treated areas. This is normal and should subside in a few days.

PRP to treat hair loss

What is hair PRP?

PRP therapy is a new and natural non-surgical option for patients experiencing hair loss. Here at our clinic, we have seen patients improve tremendously after treatments, and clinical studies provide evidence that PRP stimulates hair growth. The cells and growth factors in PRP encourages the growth of hair follicles.

Who is a good candidate for hair PRP?

PRP is a great solution for both men and women, especially when hair transplant surgery is not an option. PRP injections can stimulate new hair growth in people who suffer from male or female pattern baldness (also known as androgenetic alopecia). The male hair procedure is sometimes referred to as “PRP Vampire Hair Raising.”

Medications used to restore hair can be used in conjunction with PRP, only if the patient can tolerate the medication used. PRP can also be combined with Minoxidil lotion or used after a hair transplantation for an even better effect

PRP treats the following types of hair loss:

  • Androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness)

  • Alopecia areata

  • Traction alopecia

  • Telogen effluvium

PRP injections can also prevent further hair loss and slow down the rate of thinning. Talk to one of our doctors if you are unsure of the type of hair loss you are experiencing.

Benefits of PRP for hair loss

  • Non-surgical: PRP injections for hair loss are a non-surgical treatment option, which means that they do not involve any incisions or anaesthesia. This makes the treatment safer and more comfortable than surgical hair restoration procedures, such as hair transplants.

  • Minimal downtime: Unlike surgical hair restoration procedures, which can require several weeks of downtime, PRP injections for hair loss have minimal downtime. Patients can return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure.

  • Natural results: PRP injections for hair loss provide natural-looking results because they promote the growth of the patient's own hair. This means that the new hair blends in seamlessly with the patient's existing hair, creating a natural-looking hairline.

  • Safe: PRP injections for hair loss are a safe treatment option because they use the patient's own blood, eliminating the risk of allergic reactions or transmission of infections.

  • Cost-effective: PRP injections for hair loss are a cost-effective treatment option compared to surgical hair restoration procedures. This makes it a more accessible option for patients who may not be able to afford surgical hair restoration.

What does PRP for hair loss involve?

  • A nurse will take your blood (like a normal blood test).

  • The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to isolate the PRP which contains a large concentration of growth factors and platelets integral to healing and regeneration.

  • The area to be treated is washed and local anaesthetic cream is applied.

  • The PRP is then injected directly into the scalp area where the hair is currently thinning.

The procedure will take approximately 60 minutes, and the PRP treatment is usually performed every 4 to 6 weeks for three sessions.

PRP for musculoskeletal conditions

Platelet-rich plasma, commonly referred to as PRP, is an autologous blood derivative- it is human blood that is spun down and separated, producing a concentration of platelets above normal values. Platelets are the clotting cells of our blood, but they also have great potential in enhancing healing of muscle, tendon and ligaments. Studies suggest that growth factors released by platelets recruit reparative cells, augmenting tissue repair and accelerating soft tissue healing.
